Abby LewisAbby Lewis, a senior at Orchard Farm High School earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting. By earning the award, Lewis exemplifies a leader who has transformed an idea for change into an actionable plan with a sustainable impact. Lewis was among 53 Gold Award Girl Scouts recognized during a ceremony at Lindenwood University in St. Charles this summer.

Children explore the world around them using their five senses: touch, sight, smell, taste and hearing. To earn her Gold Award, Lewis gave local area preschoolers more opportunities to engage these essential faculties. She created and donated a large-scale music and outdoor water wall that would strengthen their developmental skills. This G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)TM is ensuring children in her area have a curriculum in their early years that will set them up for success now and later in life.

The Gold Award represents the culmination of more than 80 hours of work on a project that is important to each girl. Approximately one million high-school aged Girl Scouts have earned the Girl Scout Gold Award or its equivalent since 1916.
