A+ Schools Program

The A+ Schools Program is designed to provide students with an educational system that meets their needs. In 1998, Orchard Farm High School received a grant from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to develop such a system. The plan includes making changes in the curriculum, implementing a school-to-work program, serving at-risk students, and promoting career exploration and career pathway selection. Having successfully completed this plan, Orchard Farm High School has been designated an “A+ School with Distinction.”

GOALS OF THE A+ PROGRAM

The A+ Schools Program seeks to accomplish the following goals:

1. All students will graduate from high school.

2. All students will complete high school studies that are challenging and have identified learning expectations.

3. All students will proceed from high school graduation to college, post-secondary vocational/technical school or high wage job with opportunities for workplace skill development/advancement.

STUDENT INCENTIVE

Qualified students graduating from a designated A+ school may be eligible to receive the following:

REIMBURSEMENT FOR TUITION TO ATTEND ANY PUBLIC COMMUNITY COLLEGE, VOCATIONAL, OR TECHNICAL SCHOOL IN THE STATE OF MISSOURI FOR TWO YEARS, PENDING LEGISLATIVE FUNDING.

These tuition incentives may be available only after the student has made a documented effort to first secure all available federal post-secondary student financial assistance funds that do not require repayment. The tuition incentives will only be made available to reimburse the unpaid balance of the cost of tuition, after available federal post-secondary financial assistance funds have been applied to those costs. Students may be eligible to receive the above incentives for two years if they maintain a 2.5 GPA in the post-secondary setting. Students must complete the two years of FULL TIME enrollment at a community college or public vocational/technical school within FOUR years of graduating from Orchard Farm High School.

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY FOR A+ SCHOOLS PROGRAM

To be eligible for the financial incentives of the A+ Schools Program, students must first be certified as an A+ Student by Orchard Farm High School. To be certified as an A+ Student, an individual must meet the following requirements:

1. Sign an A+ Student Participation Agreement.

2. Attend Orchard Farm High School for the three years prior to graduation.

3. Maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5.

4. Maintain an overall 95% attendance record for grades 9-12.

5. Perform 50 hours of unpaid tutoring/mentoring for younger students.

6. Maintain a record of good citizenship, avoid the use of drugs and alcohol.

7. Make a good faith effort to first secure all available federal post-secondary student financial assistance funds that do not require repayment.

After reviewing all eligibility requirements, the high school principal will certify that the student is an A+ Student. This status will be indicated on the student’s official transcript.

Beginning with the high school senior class of 2015, students must have achieved a score of proficient or advanced on the official Algebra I end of course exam, or complete the first semester at a postsecondary institution with a minimum of twelve (12) hours or the equivalent, and a two and one-half (2.50) grade point average prior to receiving A+ tuition reimbursement.
