| I am pleased to announce that Orchard Farm High School's Project Lead the Way (PLTW) pre-engineering program has been certified by the national PLTW organization. High schools planning to offer four or more PLTW courses are eligible for certification and may begin the process of certification at the end of the second year of implementation. OFHS is still subject to quality and/or technical assistance visits required by PLTW state leadership teams, but OFHS is a certified PLTW school for the next five years. Our students who take PLTW courses benefit from this certification by being able to earn college credit for successful high school completion of coursework at various post-secondary institutions such as Missouri University of Science and Technology, St. Louis Community College, University of Central Missouri and the University of Columbia.
With the end of the year fast approaching, please take a moment to review upcoming events at OFHS:
April 26 Pageant of Bands Concert (6-12 band concert) (7 pm)
April 30 Early Release (12:30 pm secondary/1:30 pm elementary)
May 2-4 5th grade camp
May 5 Prom at Old Hickory Country Club (6-11 pm)

| Congratulations are extended to David Roy, as he has received an appointment to both the United States Naval Academy as well as to the United States Military Academy. David has accepted his appointment to the Naval Academy and will report to the Academy on June 28th, 2012 for Induction Day. Only 8.4% of students who apply for acceptance to the Naval Academy receive an appointment, so David is in select company. He receives a full-tuition scholarship to the US Naval Academy and will receive a commission as an Ensign in the US Navy upon graduation from the Naval Academy. In reutrn for his full-ride scholarship, David will commit to an active-duty service obligation after graduation. Congratulations David on your appointment and for your willingness to serve our great country!
Becca Belter has been selected as one of 100 recipients in the State of Missouri in the 2012 Missouri Scholars 100, a statewide program that annually honors 100 of Missouri's top academic graduating students. Becca had to meet established criteria of an "Academic Decathalon", which included 10 "events" designed to ensure the academic strength of the student. To meet the decathalon requirements, a student must have a minimum GPA of 3.75, a minimum ACT composite score of 29, be ranked in the upper 10% of the class and have taken upper level courses in math, science, English and foreign language. The student must also have excellent attendance, be an exemplary school citizen and be involved in the school activity program. Becca has earned a composite score of 33 on her ACT and maintains a 4.0 GPA through 7 semesters of academic course work. Becca will be honored in Columbia on April 29th. Congratulations to Becca on this fantastic accomplishment!
Finally, our senior parents continue to work hard to raise enough money for the chemical-free All Night graduation party. Donations (both financial and other gifts) are still being accepted. If you would like to donate to the graduation party, please mail your donations to the high school (2165 Highway V, St. Charles, MO 63301) or contact Terri Echele at 636-250-5400 or techele@ofsd.k12.mo.us for more information. |
