Students just finished reading a nonfiction book for class called Written in Bone by Sally W. Walker. It combined their study of colonial America in social studies with what they learned about genetics in science. Using this book, they discovered all of the text features in nonfiction that help them to comprehend the material.
The third quarter due dates for Book of Choice are listed in the "Important Announcements" section of this page (scroll down). Students are responsible for writing reflective journal entries, thick and thin questions, and a literary analysis project. The reading and required activities should be completed primarily at home.
Four science fiction books were given as options for their next class book: Unwind, The Adoration of Jenna Fox, Ender's Game, and The Barcode Tattoo. Students chose the book they want to read over the next few weeks, and they will apply skills from mini-lessons to that particular book.
